Make A Difference (MAD) is an award-winning NGO that delivers an 18-year-long intervention to Children in Need of Care & Protection (CNCP) in India that has the proven capability to enable them to break the cycle of poverty in a single generation.

At Make A Difference, we are driven by a compelling vision: to end poverty in our lifetime. We strive to ensure that even the most vulnerable children in India are able to permanently break the cycle of poverty in our lifetime.

- Empower Children: 🚸 To thrive by providing long-term mentorship, age-appropriate skills and community support leading to better educational outcomes, job placements & personal growth.
- Strengthen the Environment: 🌱 To provide a safe caring space for a child to thrive in by driving better practices among the key stakeholders that directly affect children’s lives; primarily family, schools, community-based organisations, community and state.
- Mobilize Young Leaders: 🌍 To catalyse community members to be active citizens by enabling young leaders to build self-organising, self-sustaining, regenerative communities.
- Enable the Sector: 🔗 To solve the problem at its full scale through better policy development & implementation, data-driven programs, sharing knowledge and building coalitions
¶ Our Strategy: Breaking the cycle of poverty through Progression Mentoring
Make A Difference (MAD) has developed the award-winning Community-Powered Social-Mobility-Program called the Progression Mentoring, helping 90% of children break the poverty cycle within a generation and reach the top 10% of income earners. MAD identified 5 Progression Milestones for escaping the cycle of poverty; without support, most vulnerable children do not advance beyond their parents' socioeconomic status.
Progression Mentoring enables a child to progress through milestones in a single generation by providing individual mentorship, age-appropriate empowerment and access to resources.

¶ Program Delivery: Community Organising Model
MAD delivers Progression Mentoring through a Community Organising model, empowering young leaders to mobilize community members into active citizens. Community leaders do this by forming chapters of 200 volunteers and children. The chapters are self-organizing, self-sustaining and regenerative to ensure that as we scale exponentially, the cost of adding a new chapter trends towards zero.
